What is it? Medicaid is a government health insurance program that helps individuals and families with children pay for some or all of their medical bills. What do you get? Medical services such as doctors’ and nurses’ visits, prescription drugs, some dental care, nursing care, home care, psychiatric care, and hospital care. Most people who receive Medicaid in Erie County will need to choose a managed care plan from a private HMO. You may have a small co-payment for some services. If you are eligible for Medicaid, Medicaid will also provide retroactive coverage for the three months before your coverage starts. This means that if you paid medical bills from the past three months, Medicaid will reimburse you. How long do you get it? You can get Medicaid as long as you still qualify but you'll need to recertify every 12 months. 'Re-certify' means that a Medicaid worker checks that you are still eligible for Medicaid. |
